THE TRIUMPH OF FAITH
The water of Lourdes have been famous for its
miraculous cure wherein it is believed that taking a bath or drinking it could
cure one of his illness including cancer. The water comes out from a grotto
which was discovered in 1858. In February 1858 a 14-year old peasant girl
Bernadette Soubirous had gone to collect firewood where she waded into the
water through Grotto of Massabielle where she saw a beautiful lady in white.
Despite being punished by her parents she continued to visit the grotto and on
25th February 1858 the apparition asked her to dig the ground and
drink from the spring below. The spring that she discovered is the source of
the miraculous water of Lourdes which has seen millions of visitors visit the
holy city to seek blessings of the Blessed Virgin
The case of John Trynor is a classical case of the
triumph of faith. John Trynor had taken part in the 1st World War
and had been grievously injured by machine gun fire in his chest, head and a
bullet had lodged in his right collar bone paralyzing the right side and
muscles had become atrophied. Despite several operations there was not much
improvement and by 1923 he could not walk and was confined to a wheelchair and
even suffered from epilepsy. He had immense faith in Blessed Virgin and when he
heard that the Liverpool Diocese was going to Lourdes he decided to join it
despite strong protests from his wife, friends and even a member of the diocese.
On his journey to Lourdes his health worsened and at three places the group
accompanying him wanted to shift him to a hospital but as destiny wanted to
take him to Lourdes there was no hospital at all the 3 places and he had to
kept aboard.
Owing to his strong will and faith he was able to take
bath nine times and took part in all the ceremonies where the sick are taken.
During his ninth bath his paralyzed leg suddenly became agitated but was
restrained by the volunteers and taken to the Rosary Square for the Blessing of
the Sick. As the Archbishop blessed him he felt a sensation in his right arm
and removed all the bandages but was again restrained by the volunteers and was
put on a vigil. Next morning he had a great urge to go to grotto and he rushed
from his room pushing two volunteers and reached the grotto crossing the
graveled path without any cut on his bare foot. There he fell on his knees to
thank the Virgin. The group that was accompanying him could not believe what
they were seeing and was overwhelmed on witnessing the miracle.
Since the very beginning it has been customary for the
pilgrims to take away water of Lourdes for their relatives and friends. Looking
at the demand of the water worldwide several companies offer to sell the water
and other religious gifts online. On click or visiting this link you can obtain

in Lourdes since 1882 which has among its members believers as well as
non-believers who examine each case and decide whether the person has been
cured or not.
A priest who was suffering from a suffering from a
nervous disorder after contracting influenza came to Lourdes with the hope that
his condition would improve. When he came there he needed help for everything
that he did, was unable to walk, used to be confused, was unable to speak
properly and had loss of memory. All symptoms pointed towards nervous disorder
from spinal cord and brain. After reaching there he went for a bath only after
two days as he did not want to take the place of a sick pilgrim who sought cure.
After taking bath at the grotto he realized that he did not need his walking
stick and had been completely cured. The cure was permanent and he was able to
perform his duties as a Parish for another 14 years. The cure was attributed to

WATER OF LOURDES – THE BLESSINGS IF VIRGIN MARY
The
French city of Lourdes came into prominence in 1858 when news spread about the
miraculous power of the water gushing out of a grotto in this city. It all
started when a 14 year girl narrated to her mother that a beautiful lady had
appeared in a cave near the city and told her that they should bathe and drink
water from the spring that flowed under the cave. Seventeen more sightings were
reported that year and soon people from far and near started to reach the visit
the city to take a dip in the sacred spring. It was believed that taking a bath
or drinking the water could cure the people from their disease and sufferings.
It is believed that the miracles are a blessing of the Our Lady of Lourdes who faithful
believe is Virgin Mary. Since then for over 150 years people have been
travelling to this holy city between March and October with devotion and hope
that their sufferings would be cured. The water has been tested scientifically and
no harmful substances have been found.
The
story of Gabriel Gargam is well known in the history of Lourdes as he was
healed both spiritually and physically. By the age of fifteen Gabriel had lost
faith in the Church. While travelling in a train he was thrown away from the
train after it met with an accident and his condition become deplorable with
him being paralyzed waist down, gangrene setting in his legs and he was unable
to consume food. Due to requests from his aunt and constant pleading from his
mother he agreed to visit Lourdes. When he was lowered in the water his
situation worsened and people thought he had died. On their way back to the
hotel they stepped aside to let the process of the Blessed Sacrament pass. The
priest in the Sacred Host passed Benediction over the mourning group. It was
then that a miracle helped and there was a movement and Gargam sat erect
leaving the crowd gathered rubbing their eyes in disbelief. He soon stood up
and started to walk and declared himself cured. He fell down on his knees to
thank the Shrine of Blessed Mother. He was even able to eat his full meal the
same night. A panel of 60 doctors examined him and declared him fully cured.
Overwhelmed by the gratitude he dedicated his entire life serving the invalid
at Lourdes.
Sadly
a large number of suffering people are not able to take advantage of the
miraculous water. They are either in such a physical condition that they are
unable to undertake a journey to Lourdes or unable to do so because of their
financial condition. Over the decades friends and relatives of them have been
carrying the water for them. Several individuals have made arrangements so that
these people may procure the water of Lourdes sitting at their home. A visit or

Seventeen more reporting of the appearance of the Lady came into notice during
that year.

There was a young boy who had been not keeping well
since his birth and even at the age of 2 he had not started to walk and was
considered as a hopeless case. The desperate mother decided to seek the
blessings of the Blessed Virgin and so she arrived at the grotto despite the
fact at that time the general public were prohibited to go near the grotto. She
stood near the rock and prayed to the Virgin and bathed the child in the
hallowed water. After a few moments which looked like an eternity for the
onlookers she went back home and after a few days her faith in the Virgin was
answered when her son started to walk and lived a normal life for many years.
It has been tradition for decades for people who have
been visiting Lourdes to take away water from there for their loved ones back
home who are either in such a state that they cannot take the journey or are
