the story behind Lourdes miracle water

Lourdes has become a religious pilgrimage to the catholic believers since the time it was first discovered. The water from the fountains is considered to have supernatural abilities, which results in the unexplainable cures. Since she had 5 other siblings; survival was very hard, but the character of this young little girl shone though who never lost hope. Her family took residence in an old, unused prison which was regarded as unfit for human residence, and hence was not used. When the cholera epidemic was spread in the area, she also fell target to it. Due to which her health was compromised throughout her life and she lived with chronic asthma all her life.

It was Thursday 11, Feburary 1858, when the first apparition was received from lady Bernadette. On the day, she went out with her sister and friend to collect some wood by the riverside, on request of her mother. Due to her chronic asthma being triggered, she decided to stay in the corner of the bank, while the others crossed the stream. While she was waiting there, she was startled by the sound as if there was a storm. When she stood up, her eyes went on a single rose bud, all alone, in the rocky opening at the Grotto of Massabieille. The bud was rapidly moving as if there was a storm. After a that she saw  a golden cloud hovering above the bud, when transformed into a beautiful young woman; although she said nothing to the girl.

It was not until he 9^th apparition that the beautiful lady requested the girl to drink the water of the fountain and also take a dip in it. This request was confusing for the girl, at that time there was no fountain there, nor has there ever been one in the past. But listening to the women, she starts digging through gravel; with every further dig she found the land being moist. Finally water started surfacing. Once the hole that she dug up was filled, she drank the water and washed her face with it. With every passing day, the flow of water increased, and within a few days the small puddle became a stream. And his how the "Holy water from Lourdres" or "religious gift from Lourdes" was first discovered.
